Jessica Michelle Chastain (born March 24, 1977) is an American actor and producer. Her films that focus on feminist issues are her primary focus. Her work has earned her numerous accolades, including an Academy Award as well as the Golden Globe Award. Time magazine listed her as one of the 100 most influential individuals worldwide in 2012. Chastain was a keen actor from an early age. She made her performance debut on stage as Shakespeare's Juliet in 1998. After completing her acting studies at the Juilliard School, she was signed to a talent holding deal with the producer of television John Wells. She was a frequent guest star on several television shows and also played a variety of roles in stage productions. Chastain's film debut was in Jolene (2008) at 31 years old. In 2011, Chastain achieved her breakthrough by releasing six films which included The Tree of Life (2011), Take Shelter (2011) as well as The Tree of Life (2012). She was considered for Academy Award nominations as a role in The Help (2011), where she played an aspiring socialite. She also appeared in Zero Dark Thirty (2012) as an CIA analyst. The science-fiction films Interstellar (2014), The Martian (2015) and It Chapter Two (2018) were more commercially successful. Chastain was not only praised for her portrayal of strong-willed women such as in the dramas Most Violent Year (2014), Miss Sloane (2016) and Molly's Game (2017). She was also a part of the TV miniseries Scenes from a Marriage (1921). She went on to portray Tammy Faye Bakker in the biopic The Eyes of Tammy Faye (2021) and won the Academy Award for Best Actress and Tammy Wynette in the miniseries George & Tammy (2022). Chastain is the creator of production company Freckle Films, which was created to promote the diversity of filmmaking, and is an investor in the soccer club Angel City FC. She has a strong voice on gender equality, mental illness and racial equality. She is engaged to the fashion executive Gian Luca Passi de Preposulo who is her partner.
